Meet Sandy
Sandy Bassin, Founder & Executive Director
Most people think of adolescence as just a phase, something every kid moves through and comes out the other side of. But for girls, the stakes are different. Girls are twice as likely as boys to experience a mental health disorder, and too often, confidence is the first thing they lose. Not because they're lacking anything, but because girls face higher risks of internalizing their struggles (depression, eating disorders, self-doubt), absorbing it all quietly in ways that rarely show on the surface, while most of them are doing it without nearly enough support. For Sandy, this is more than research. It's her own story.
Sandy grew up like a lot of girls. She had a loving family, good grades, friends and was involved in sports and the arts. But when adolescence hit, her confidence quietly disappeared. Anxiety crept in, the pressure to fit in became overwhelming. By 16, she had developed an alcohol use disorder, and an eating disorder followed not long after. It was during that time she made herself a promise: one day, she would create something that would have a positive impact on the lives of girls.
Now nearly twenty years in recovery, she founded Her Story believing that girls need to be supported, seen, and surrounded with the protective factors that build resilience before a crisis takes hold. Sandy holds a degree in psychology and has spent the past decade working in the behavioral health field. She lives in New York with her husband and four children and Bernadoodle, Bowie.
Meet Anne
Anne Letscher, Co-Founder & Chief Program Officer
Anne is an actor, writer, and entrepreneur who came to this work the way most people come to work that matters — through her own life.
As a self-described "recovering adolescent," she brings a personal lens to everything she builds — shaped by her own experience navigating adolescence and deepened over years of intentional work in therapy and personal growth. That foundation is what drives her commitment to creating safer pathways for girls and building the resources and support she wishes had existed for her.
Her background spans theatre, education, and civic life. She holds a BFA in Theatre, has performed on and Off-Broadway, and toured nationally. That same creative drive led her to found A Star is Born, direct choirs, and raise funds and awareness for other mission-driven organizations.
As Co-Founder and CPO of Her Story, she brings together her expertise as a storyteller and her deep belief in the power of narrative to change how young women see themselves. Her ability to shape meaningful programming has been central to the organization's vision and results.
She is the mother of two kids who remind her every day why this work matters.
Meet Jamie
Jamie Bullock, Program Director
Jamie Bullock is a producer, entrepreneur, and healing arts practitioner with 20 years of experience in Los Angeles production. Her career has been built on the belief that storytelling, when done with intention, has the power to shift how people see themselves and each other.
Her background spans creative development, collaboration, and conscious media-making, where she deepened her commitment to purposeful, values-driven work. She is also the founder of Pisces Moon Collective, a platform that blends her production expertise with her passion for healing and community.
Jamie joined Her Story as Program Director because the mission aligns with everything she has built her career around: amplifying voices, fostering connection, and creating experiences that leave a lasting impact. As a mother, that commitment is personal. The programs she builds here are part of the world she is actively shaping for her daughter and the next generation of young women.
She brings to this role a rare combination of creative vision, operational experience, and a deep commitment to the wellbeing of the girls Her Story serves.
